The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures held its sixth annual gala on Saturday, October 17th in Los Angeles, and it once again proved why it’s called the “Met Gala of the West.” Hollywood’s biggest names came together to celebrate cinema and raise funds for the museum, turning the cream carpet into a full-blown couture runway. From archival vintage to custom couture, the night was all about Old Hollywood glamour with a modern twist.
Taylor Swift led the best-dressed list and closed the night with a performance. The 14-time Grammy winner arrived in a custom icy-blue strapless Dior gown featuring a princess silhouette and a crystal-covered ribbon bow. Styled as a modern Cinderella moment, she paired the look with diamond chandelier earrings, her signature winged liner, and a soft mauve-pink lip instead of her classic red. The look also put her massive engagement ring on display.
Kim Kardashian made a dramatic turn to Old Hollywood in a rare archival Balenciaga gown from 1951. The strapless ivory dress, sourced from vintage house Lily et Cie, featured delicate lace embroidery, a sweeping baby-pink sash, and a dramatic bow train. She leaned fully into the tribute with a sculpted bouffant updo, brown smoky eyes, and serious diamonds — including a multi-layered 55.8-carat Leviev necklace and 10.2-carat cluster earrings, channeling Elizabeth Taylor for the night.
The pink and polka-dot parade continued with the rest of the A-list. Hailey Bieber brought a pop of color in a custom bubblegum-pink Chanel column dress with an embellished halter neckline, while Kendall Jenner stunned in custom Valentino — a chic off-the-shoulder polka-dot gown with a thigh-high slit and sleek high bun. Sabrina Carpenter opted for bold minimalism in a custom cobalt Giorgio Armani Privé cut-out gown with Chopard jewels.
Other standout moments defined the night’s fashion story. Honoree Charlize Theron, receiving the Icon Award, wore sheer black Tom Ford by Haider Ackermann with Boucheron jewelry. Teyana Taylor turned heads in Schiaparelli Couture with a turquoise breastplate over a sheer floral skirt, Janelle Monáe arrived in Robert Wun with butterfly wings, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas dazzled in a champagne Vivienne Westwood Couture gown with dewy glam.
From sheer, lingerie-inspired black gowns to bold reds, violets and candy pinks, the 2026 gala balanced fashion heritage and future-facing couture perfectly. With archival pieces sitting next to brand-new custom creations, stars didn’t just wear dresses — they made museum-worthy statements that will be talked about long after the lights went down in Los Angeles.
