Last night, pop superstar Taylor Swift married NFL star tight end Travis Kelce in a lavish affair at Madison Square Garden. After they said their vows, the signs outside MSG lit up with “JUST&T MARRIED” in celebration.
Never willing to pass up an opportunity to make things about himself, the White House quickly posted a doctored image of the signs outside MSG emblazoned with “TRUMP IS YOUR PRESIDENT” to the official Twitter.
Never before has such a simple declaration of fact felt so threatening, and that’s exactly why he did it.
Taylor Swift is famously a Democrat and has done important work mobilizing her fanbase to donate to Democrats and volunteer for get-out-the-vote efforts.
For Trump to try to hijack her big day like this is definitely an act of spiteful vengeance against a person much more famous than he is, and whose fan adulation he envies.
It’s the Fourth of July, America’s 250th anniversary, and all Trump can think about is himself.
