‘Lovely in Every Way’: Tom Cruise Opens Up About Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce and the Family Behind No. 87
Days after watching Kelce help Kansas City open 2026 with a statement win, Cruise joined “New Heights” and delivered a deeply personal tribute to the Chiefs star, Taylor Swift and the family surrounding them.
Just days after watching Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs open the 2026 season at Arrowhead Stadium, Hollywood icon Tom Cruise joined Travis and Jason Kelce on New Heights and offered a remarkably warm assessment of the football star’s life beyond the numbers, trophies and touchdowns.
Cruise had spent Monday night alongside Taylor Swift as Kansas City defeated the Denver Broncos 31-10. By Friday, he was sitting across from her husband and describing the newlyweds as a “beautiful couple.”
Then he went further.
“It’s lovely in every way,” Cruise told Kelce while also praising the family and friends surrounding him.
For a player whose career has increasingly become a story about balancing football, fame and a dramatically changed personal life, the exchange landed differently.
Kelce smiled and responded with a line that may have captured this moment better than any statistic could.
“I’m a lucky son of a buck, man.”
Cruise wasn’t willing to let him dismiss it as luck.
“You create your own luck, man,” he replied.
Jason Kelce immediately agreed: “He has done that.”
From Arrowhead to New Heights
Cruise wasn’t offering praise from a distance.
He had just experienced Arrowhead.
The 64-year-old actor attended Kansas City’s September 14 season opener, sitting with Swift as the Chiefs began their campaign against AFC West rival Denver.
Cruise later described it as the most fun he had ever experienced at a football game, praising the atmosphere surrounding the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes’ return.
There was plenty to enjoy.
Kansas City controlled Denver 31-10, beginning a season carrying significantly different expectations after the Chiefs’ difficult 2025 campaign.
Kelce did not dominate the target sheet, but he didn’t need to.
The veteran tight end caught three passes for 71 yards, averaging 23.7 yards per reception. His night included a 59-yard catch, another reminder that even at 36, Kelce can still punish a defense when coverage breaks down or Mahomes finds him in space.
For Kansas City, that’s the important part.
The Chiefs don’t necessarily need Kelce to carry their passing offense every Sunday anymore. What they need is the player who understands defensive spacing almost instinctively, recognizes coverage adjustments and has spent more than a decade developing one of football’s most dangerous quarterback-tight end partnerships with Mahomes.
Monday suggested that player remains very much alive.
Cruise discovers Taylor Swift knows football
There was another revelation from Cruise’s trip to Arrowhead.
Taylor Swift knows considerably more football than he expected.
Cruise said Swift was effectively “schooling” him on the sport while they watched Kansas City play, something Travis later explained has developed gradually since the couple began dating in 2023.
Kelce recalled how different things were early in their relationship.
Swift initially had plenty to learn about the details of the NFL. Three years later, according to Kelce, she can recognize penalties and understand concepts that once required explanation.
That transformation apparently impressed Cruise.
It also says something about how thoroughly the worlds surrounding Kelce have merged.
What began as one of the NFL’s most unexpected celebrity storylines has become something far more ordinary inside the Kelce family.
Swift attends games.
She understands what’s happening.
She celebrates with his family.
