Days before a much-anticipated return to the field, the Chiefs quarterback stepped away from football to celebrate wife Brittany Mahomes’ 31st birthday with a playful ’90s-inspired night.

For most of the past nine months, Patrick Mahomes’ calendar has been dominated by rehabilitation sessions, medical checkpoints, football meetings and one overriding objective: getting himself back under center for the Kansas City Chiefs.

For one night, however, the playbook disappeared.

With Kansas City’s 2026 season opener rapidly approaching, Mahomes traded his familiar No. 15 jersey for a light-blue throwback look as he joined wife Brittany Mahomes in celebrating her 31st birthday with a Backstreet Boys-inspired night out.

The longtime couple leaned completely into the theme, posing together in coordinating outfits before Brittany shared a collection of photographs from the celebration on social media.

It was playful, nostalgic and worlds removed from the pressure that has surrounded Mahomes throughout his offseason.

And perhaps that was exactly the point.

A different side of the Chiefs superstar

That makes the timing of Brittany’s birthday celebration all the more striking.

Mahomes was able to briefly step outside the relentless demands of NFL preparation before returning to a week that could represent one of the most closely watched comebacks of his career.

The challenge waiting for Mahomes
Denver is hardly an ideal opponent for a quarterback making his first regular-season appearance after major knee surgery.

The Broncos enter 2026 as the reigning AFC West champions after ending Kansas City’s nine-year run atop the division. NFL.com has highlighted Denver as a team carrying legitimate Super Bowl expectations into the new campaign.

That means Mahomes will not simply be returning to action.

He will be returning in a divisional game under the Monday night spotlight against the team that displaced Kansas City from the top of the AFC West.
