The “I Told You So” Era: A Nation Divided by the Reality of 2026
As the United States enters March 2026, the political landscape has reached a boiling point. One year into Donald Trump’s second term, the “I told you so” sentiment among his critics has transformed from campaign rhetoric into a fierce, data-driven indictment of his administration’s actions
For many who opposed Trump’s return to the White House, the first 14 months of his second term have been a systematic confirmation of their darkest predictions. From the total overhaul of the healthcare system to an aggressive, interventionist foreign policy, the current administration has moved with a speed and ruthlessness that has left a significant portion of the country in a state of fury
The Healthcare Shift: “The Great Healthcare Plan”
In January 2026, the administration unveiled “The Great Healthcare Plan,” a legislative framework designed to replace the remaining pillars of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). While the White House markets the plan as a way to “maximize price transparency” and “lower drug costs” via the new Trumprx.gov portal, critics point to the reality of the numbers.
According to data released in late 2025, Medicare Part B premiums are set to increase by 9.7% in 2026, the highest jump in four years. This increase will consume approximately 33% of the Social Security Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), effectively leaving 64 million seniors with fewer resources. Furthermore, the expiration of enhanced ACA tax credits—which the administration declined to extend—is projected to cause marketplace premiums for 24 million people to skyrocket by an average of 26%.
Housing and the $33 Billion Axe
Perhaps no department has felt the “gutting” more than the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In his FY2026 budget proposal, Trump sought a $32.9 billion cut—a staggering 44% reduction in funding compared to 2025 levels.
The proposal includes:
The elimination of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
A $26.7 billion reduction in rental assistance programs.
A two-year cap on rental assistance for non-elderly, able-bodied adults.
While the administration argues these cuts “crack down on waste” and “restore local control,” housing advocates warn of a “homelessness time bomb” as the safety net for the nation’s most vulnerable is systematically dismantled.
A “Peace President” or Global Interventionist?
One of the most stinging criticisms from the 2024 campaign was the prediction that Trump would be a “Peace President.” However, by early 2026, the U.S. has carried out military strikes in at least seven different countries: Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
The most dramatic of these was “Operation Absolute Resolve” on January 3, 2026, where U.S. Special Forces extracted Nicolás Maduro from Caracas. Additionally, the “Twelve Day War” between Israel and Iran in early 2026 saw the U.S. launch over 100 aircraft to strike Iranian nuclear facilities. While Trump frames these as “peace through strength,” his critics argue the world now views American foreign policy as a volatile “joke.”
The Social Rollback: LGBTQ+ and Women’s Rights
On his first day in office, January 20, 2025, Trump signed executive orders that fundamentally redefined the federal government’s stance on gender. Executive Order 14168 defined “sex” as an immutable biological binary, effectively:
